24 September 2026

Objective: work effectively after the tackle โ€” the contact situation is the start of the next contest, not the end of the play.

TACKLE โ€” complete the job RELEASE โ€” follow the laws RELOAD โ€” back to feet quickly SUPPORT โ€” arrive early COMPETE โ€” stay involved
Safety: waist-and-below tackle height, head to the side of the ball carrier, progressive contact intensity, active coach supervision, adequate spacing between stations, hydration breaks available.

Timing: planned to 55 minutes with a 5-minute buffer built in for the 60-minute slot — use it to stretch Touch Rugby Plus if the session's running to time, or absorb it elsewhere if you're running late.

Warm-up game ยท 10 min Both groups โ€” U10 & U12 together

Ball Chaos

Goal: build awareness, reactions, communication and work rate under pressure.

20m × 20m area, multiple balls in play, whole squad involved. Coach calls different actions and players react immediately; new challenges introduced regularly.

Coaching point: keep moving, scan constantly, react quickly, communicate, support teammates.

Dynamic warm-up ยท 5 min Both groups โ€” U10 & U12 together

Movement channel

High knees, walking lunges, side shuffles, bear crawls, accelerations down a 15m channel. Active feet, good posture, balance, strong effort.

Reload & Arrive Block

Goal: build the release-and-reload habit, then chain it straight into a sprint to the next contest.

Tackle to contest diagram: after the tackle, the tackler releases and reloads through a recovery gate, while a support player arrives first to the next contest

Start as Tackle & Recover: player tackles the bag, releases immediately, returns to feet, sprints through a 5m recovery gate. Straight out of the gate, flow into the First Arriver Race: ball on the ground 10m away, sprint to it, arrive under control and adopt a strong athletic position.

Coaching point: correct tackle technique, immediate release, quick feet, sprint after contact, arrive balanced and low, stay involved.

Support & Contest Block

Goal: build one clean support option, then repeat it at game intensity.

Start as the Support Challenge: 15m × 10m channel with ball carrier, support player and defender. Ball carrier attacks the defender; support player reacts immediately and offers an option. After a few reps, add a second attacker and defender for Continuous Contact 2v2: attackers try to score, defenders tackle and recover; coach restarts play immediately for continuous, high-intensity reps.

Coaching point: stay connected, react early, communicate, arrive with purpose, reload quickly, compete continuously.

Contest game ยท 12 min Runs as two separate games โ€” U10 and U12

Continuous Rugby

25m × 20m pitch, two separate games. Attack: support the ball carrier, react quickly, stay connected. Defence: reload immediately, work hard after tackles, communicate, stay involved.

Game ยท 12โ€“17 min Runs as two separate games โ€” U10 and U12

Touch Rugby Plus

Standard touch rugby with bonus points for fast reloads, great support lines, positive communication and outstanding effort. This is the flex block: let it run the full 17 minutes if the session's on schedule, or cut to 12 if you're behind.
